dystopia series, 2023
What is the vision of our future? What does futurism mean today? We live in a time once portrayed in sci-fi films with robots taking over our world. Today’s society is more dependent on technology and social media than ever before. This dependence has profound impacts on interpersonal relationships and communication. We are too busy watching our phones rather than the real world. Family or friendly gatherings are often replaced by a silence we never knew before. We voluntarily isolate ourselves and create our own worlds.
Artificial intelligence can be a great benefit to society, but it is crucial that there is an ongoing dialogue about what role it should play in our culture and how to limit its misuse. AI could become a powerful tool in the wrong hands, causing dramatic developments in our world. On the other hand, technological progress is natural and unstoppable; perhaps the only option is to accept the new world as it is.
The Dystopia series aims to warn the general public. Social media can cause strong addiction with consequences similar to other dependencies. At the same time, it calls for the use of common sense and self-reflection in each of us.
All photographs in the Dystopia series were created through authentic photographic methods without artificial intelligence intervention. The realization involved only light, body paint, real objects or props crafted by human hands, a camera, and models of flesh and bone.
